Held in English, free and open to all.
What kinds of stories can textiles tell? How can a garden become a space for resistance, beauty, and care?
In this conversation, artist Damien Ajavon invites us into the world of Sérénade Enchantée: Mélodie du Refuge, a multisensory installation that explores the garden as both sanctuary and symbol of history, privilege, and transformation. Working across textiles, scent, ceramics, sound, and performance, Ajavon weaves together traditions from African and European heritages to create spaces of protection, memory, and quiet power.
Guiding the audience through this garden are three recurring figures: the Queen, the Strong Woman, and the Fairy. Each one carries a purpose. They open gates, guard thresholds, and cultivate coded gestures of desire and belonging.
Through this conversation, we explore Ajavon’s artistic process, the layered symbolism of the garden, and how acts of making can operate across multiple imaginaries.
