Sei Selina – Consider Me Venus

Friday 4th April 7pm free

Kunsthall Oslo is very pleased to host the launch of a new short film made as part of Sei Selina’s project Consider Me Venus. Sei Selina is a Norwegian-Sierra-Leonian artist and musician based in Oslo. In 2022 the video for her EP “Him or Her” won the Spellemann Prize.

Sei Selina’s most ambitious visual project yet, Consider Me Venus, is a bold artistic statement redefining modern beauty ideals as it highlights the power of self liberation and destroys the concept of shame. Sei unfolds her modern interpretation of Venus from Roman mythology, where the idea of beauty is redefined, where it is her traumas, scars, and sacrifices that marks her beauty. Through an orchestrated ritual Venus seeks to reveal the trauma and insecurities we all carry, where she observes their pain and erases their shame, as she guides the pathway into true freedom. In the art film we meet Venus on her breaking point, this is her last ritual.

Featuring collaborations with globally acclaimed dance crew Quick Style, shot by visionary photographer Andreas Johannessen and cast including legendary heavy metal artist Gaahl, starring as “Father Venus” and French actor Patrice Demoniere, from Cannes award winning movie ARMAND. Consider Me Venus art film pushes the boundaries of music, performance, visual storytelling and music videos as we know it.

Directed by Niels Windfeldt, this final chapter in a visually stunning trilogy cements Sei Selina’s reputation as a fearless, innovative artist. Shot analog on Kodak 5222 and 5219, with locations including Vigelands Catacombs.”
