Vito Acconci

Vito Acconci is an American artist born in New York in 1940.

After he graduated in literature at the beginning of the 1960’s, he devoted himself to poetry. In 1969, he started to use video to produce visual works of art. From 1970 to 1974, Acconci created performance-installations such as Seedbed (1971) or Broad Jump 71 (1971), involving his own body and social subversive comments.

During the 1980’s, Acconci turned to sculpture and installation. He also created furniture and houses prototypes.

Nowadays, Acconci works mainly in architecture. He is also teaching at the Brooklyn College in Performance and Interactive Media Arts programs.
