A talk by Brook Teklehaimanot, architect and Chair of Architecture and Design at Addis Ababa University

Sunday 9th February 2pm
at Kunsthall Oslo
Rostockgata 2-4, 0191 Oso

In connection with our current exhibition Coming Together Kunsthall Oslo is very pleased to have the opportunity to invite Brook Teklehaimanot to present an urbanist insight into the development of one of the world’s fastest changing cities.
.

“The production of space in Addis Ababa has been continuously changing with the political ideology of successive regimes for the past 134 years. The city accommodates multitudes of spatial realities that are in contrast with each other. Currently undergoing unprecedented growth, Addis Ababa is looking outward in trying to import urbanity. Genres of spatial readings are brought into the discussion to project what the future of the city could possibly look like as far as spatial production is concerned.”
.

Brook Teklehaimanot is the Chair of Architecture and Design at Addis Ababa University and the founder and Director of protoLAB, a digital prototyping and design workshop at EiABC. He has published ‘making’, a textbook for teaching design prototyping. Apart from academics, Brook practices architecture and urbanism based in Addis Ababa winning numerous competition awards for public and private buildings. He has his architectural education from AAU and the ETH Zurich. He has served as a guest professor and researcher at the TuDelft Global Housing Studio. Brooks works have been exhibited at the Tel Aviv Museum of Modern Art; South of the Sahara, Accelerated Urbanism in Africa. Brook founded BOTA Architectoch, an architectural design firm in 2015.
